Curriculum Outline

Lesson 1: Force

Introduction to the concept of force, exploring different types such as push and pull, and understanding how forces interact with objects.

Lesson 2: Motion

Discover the concept of motion, including types like linear, circular, and periodic, with real-life examples to illustrate these principles.

Lesson 3: Wheel & Axle

Learn how the wheel and axle function as simple machines, reducing friction and aiding movement in various applications.

Lesson 4: Lever

Explore the mechanics of levers, understanding how they provide mechanical advantage and are used in tools and machinery.

Lesson 5: Pulley

Understand the basics of pulleys, their components, and how they make lifting easier in daily life and industrial applications.

Lesson 6: System of Pulleys

Delve into multiple pulley systems to gain mechanical advantage, building your own pulley system and analyzing its efficiency.

Lesson 7: Catapult

Construct a catapult to explore potential and kinetic energy, energy transfer, and projectile motion in a hands-on experiment.

Lesson 8: Gears - Part 1

Learn about gears, including types and basic two-gear systems, understanding how gears of the same size transfer motion at the same speed.

Lesson 9: Gears - Part 2

Study the effects of gear size and arrangement, exploring how changing gear sizes can increase or decrease speed and direction.

Lesson 10: Gears - Part 3

Investigate complex multi-gear systems, understanding how they affect speed, direction, and torque in advanced mechanical arrangements.

Lesson 11: Pneumatic System

Discover the principles of air pressure and how pneumatic systems use it for tasks like lifting and pressing through fluid pressure transmission.

Lesson 12: Hydraulic System

Learn about fluid pressure in hydraulic systems and how they use liquid compression to transmit force in applications like hydraulic presses.

Lesson 13: Center of Mass

Explore the concept of the center of mass, how it affects balance, and how mass distribution impacts an object’s stability.

Lesson 14: Thrust

Understand thrust and its role in propulsion, experimenting with methods of thrust generation and its applications in real-world scenarios.

Lesson 15: Toy Dissection Project

Dismantle a toy to analyze its internal mechanisms, identifying components like gears, springs, wheels, and axles, and understanding how they work together.

Tangible Outcome

Upon completing this course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of mechanical principles, including forces, motion, and energy transfer. They will have built various simple machines and mechanisms, and completed a toy dissection to explore real-world applications, fostering a deeper understanding of engineering and physics.
