Course Description

This course introduces students to game design, coding, and problem-solving using Minecraft Education Edition. Through a series of engaging projects, students learn to navigate the Minecraft interface, use coding blocks, understand coordinate systems, and create unique virtual environments. Projects include building a Trade Emporium, rescuing trapped miners, designing teleportation portals, and creating musical compositions—all while developing foundational coding and critical thinking skills.

Curriculum Outline 

Lesson 1: Trade Emporium
Introduction to Minecraft's game interface, controls, coding blocks, and coordinate systems while building a virtual trade emporium.

Lesson 2: Mining Adventure
Embark on a rescue mission in a gold mine, learning navigation, player commands, and event handling in Minecraft.

Lesson 3: Beacon Teleportal
Explore teleportation by constructing a portal and understanding relative vs. world coordinates for fast travel in Minecraft.

Lesson 4: Footprint Trails
Create railway track trails as "footprints" in the Minecraft world, learning about player coordinates and position blocks.

Lesson 5: Musically
Design a musical environment using redstone mechanics, coding an agent to play notes and create interactive music in Minecraft.

Lesson 6: Race Adventure
Students race through Minecraft biomes, setting timers, creating a game environment, and implementing a score system to track progress.

Tangible Outcome

Upon completing this course, students will be able to build complex structures in Minecraft using basic coding skills, navigate the virtual world with ease, and create interactive experiences like teleport portals and musical compositions. They’ll develop problem-solving skills, understand coordinate systems, and gain confidence in using block-based coding.
