Course Description

This course teaches students the basics of game development within Minecraft, using block-based coding to create interactive and engaging worlds. Through projects like building a Snowman, teleporting players, and creating Redstone circuits, students will gain skills in coding, event handling, variables, and more.

Curriculum Outline 

Lesson 1: Snowman in the Snow Land!
Learn the basics of the Minecraft interface, game controls, code builder, commands, and inventory control by building a Snowman using blocks from Minecraft's inventory.

Lesson 2: The Scary Escape!
Create an adventurous escape game while learning Minecraft navigation, player commands, events blocks, and the concept of event handlers.

Lesson 3: Let us Teleport!
Explore the coding concept of coordinates, understanding relative vs. world positions, and develop games using coordinate-based movement.

Lesson 4: Striders Adventure
Discover variables in programming, from declaration to updates, and apply world and player coordinate systems using Minecraft MakeCode.

Lesson 5: Redstone Circuits
Gain an overview of coding the Minecraft Agent to move, turn, teleport, place, destroy, and collect blocks, using these commands to create a Redstone circuit.

Lesson 6: Exploring Pathways
Learn decision-making statements with IF-THEN and IF-ELSE conditions, collaborating to create a unique Minecraft project that incorporates conditionals.

Tangible Outcome

Upon completing this course, students will be able to create structured Minecraft worlds and games using code, understand event handling, and navigate Minecraft’s coordinate system. They’ll also be skilled in using variables, commands, and conditionals for game development.
